Ridwan Kamil Fears PSBB Failure as 3 KRL Commuters Test Positive

4 May 2020 06:58 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil on May 3 went on Twitter to question the effectiveness of the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) after three passengers of the Bogor - Jakarta commuter line (KRL) were tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The governor tweeted on Sunday “This means that the KRL, which is still packed with passengers, can carry and transport people that show no symptoms (OTG). PSBB could fail.”

The three passengers were tested positive after a random sampling PCR test that was conducted on 325 people.

Ridwan Kamil has also reported the finding to the transportation ministry and the national task force for the handling of COVID-19. He made it clear about his intentions of doing so in his tweet that reads: “Hopefully there will be calculated responses from the KRL operators.”

The West Java governor is one of the many regional leaders who openly suggested the temporary stoppage of KRL network operations due to the fact that it mainly connects the mobility of people within the Greater Jakarta Area that constitutes Jakarta and its satellite cities of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).

Another notable regional leader who suggested the same was Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan.

However, at the time they proposed this, the Transportation Ministry Ad Interim Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan rejected it and argued that the KRL is still fundamentally needed by people to commute to work.
