TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Education and Culture Ministry organized a restricted ceremony to commemorate the National Education Day, which falls on May 2, 2020. According to the 2020 National Education Day theme, 'Learning From Covid-19', Education and Culture Minister Nadiem Makarim encouraged all public elements to learn from the current Covid-19 pandemic.

"Through the current situation, for the first time teachers are conducting studies online using new tools and realized that learning can be done from anywhere," Nadiem said during his speech on Thursday, May 2020.

In addition, Nadiem also said that now parents can realize how hard it is the task of a teacher to be able to teach a child effectively during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

"Teachers, students, and parents now realize that education is not something that can be done only at school," Nadiem said.

Effective education, Nadiem explained, requires the collaboration from teacher's parents, and students. "Without the collaboration, an effective education would not be possible," Nadiem argued.

Through the Covid-19 crisis, Nadiem also said that the public should learn how important it is to maintain cleanliness and health, and the importance of morals in daily public lives.

The increasing empathy and solidarity in this time of Covid-19 pandemic must also be a lesson that must be maintained. "Not only in these times of crises but also after this crisis have passed," Nadiem said.
