TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has stated that 20 million cloth masks are set to be distributed to all Jakarta residents for free.
"The cloth masks are produced directly by tailors in villages and will be distributed in stages to all citizens of Jakarta," Anies said while reviewing the packaging process of the cloth masks, at the PD Pasar Jaya warehouse, East Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.
The distribution of the cloth masks, Anies continued, will be done in a number of stages, from the sub-district office (kelurahan) down to neighborhood associations (RW) and units (RT).
"Then, it will be distributed to every family in Jakarta. Later, each person will receive a plastic package containing two masks," he said.
At present, 1.5 million cloth masks have been produced at the PD Pasar Jaya warehouse. The masks are now being packaged and are set to be distributed today, Wednesday, April 29, 2020.
The governor expects the production and distribution of the cloth masks to be completed soon, ensuring that Jakarta residents can draw benefits in the near future.
Anies Baswedan has emphasized the importance of using face masks when going outdoors. "So, the hope is for all of our residents to collectively prevent the transmission of COVID-19 by wearing masks. This is what the Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing," he added.
