Thousand Islands Proposes Stimulus for SMEs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Thousand Islands administration proposed a stimulus policy for a total of 740 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) affected by the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 pandemic.
“We record 556 SMEs and 184 small industries and have submitted the data to SMEs Ministry,” said the head of the Thousand Islands’ Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises Agency (PPKUKM), Melinda Sagala, in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 28.
Melinda explained that enterprises and industries are under the guidance of the regency administration to obtain stimulus from related ministries.
One of the enterprises is a beach clothes seller in Untung Jawa Island. The owner Siti Sifaiyah claimed she could normally earn revenue of up to Rp550,000 per day. The figure significantly dropped to Rp125,000 per day after the outbreak.
Since the extension period of the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) enforcement that enforced the closure of the islands for tourists, SMEs were no longer having income as their business was closed.
Jakarta administration has enacted the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) on Friday, April 10 until May 22, 2020, in an effort to contain the coronavirus spread.
