Budi Karya Recovers from COVID-19, Joins Cabinet Meeting

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi took part in a virtual Cabinet meeting led by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Monday, April 27, 2020. The meeting was the first meeting Budi had taken part in after he had recovered from the coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.
"[Budi Karya] is already healthy and was present in the internal Cabinet meeting. Yes it was still an internal meeting," said Social Affairs Minister Juliari Batubara to Antara on Monday. April 27, 2020. "This is his first meeting [after recovering]. We pray he stays healthy like this," Juliari said.
Minister Budi Karya was registered as Indonesia's 76th COVID-19 patient after his condition was officially announced on March 14, 2020, by State Secretary Pratikno.
The minister was initially treated at a private hospital and was diagnosed with typhus fever, he was later confirmed positive for COVID-19 infection after conducting several state-events. He was released from the hospital on April 15 and is undergoing self-isolation.
Following his COVID-19 infection status, Budi Karya was treated at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital (RSUD). Following the news, President Jokowi ordered his entire Cabinet members to undergo a thorough COVID-19 test.
