TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Leader of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal revealed that Wednesday’s meeting between three labor organizations and President Jokowi mainly discussed the omnibus bill on job creation (RUU Cipta Kerja) and the aspects contained within the draft bill.
According to Iqbal, President Jokowi agreed to postpone the deliberation of the draft bill’s cluster overseeing employment until the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic subsides.
“The president agreed but there needs to be a political communication with the House of Representatives (DPR). He will be announcing his stand on the matter soon,” said Iqbal to Tempo on Thursday, April 23.
Rather than continuing the omnibus draft bill’s deliberation, Said Iqbal requested that House legislators help the government in handling the spread of the pandemic and assisting workers who experienced mass layoffs during the pandemic.
He strongly suggests the House of Representatives continue the deliberation on the omnibus bill on job creation after the pandemic ends. He asserts that the Articles covering the issue of employments must start from scratch and involve the three main aspects of employment; laborers, business owners, and the government.
