TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday officially requested for provincial administrations to conduct large-scale COVID-19 tests which will help the government map out the spread of the coronavirus in Indonesia.
“The first thing I would like to assert is the importance of each Indonesian provinces, districts, and cities to conduct massive (coronavirus) sample tests,” said the president in opening the weekly meeting with the COVID-19 mitigation acceleration task force on April 20.
Apart from the massive testings, President Jokowi also reaffirmed the importance of progressive contact tracing on patients that have been exposed to the coronavirus. He called for such patients to be immediately isolated.
“These three aspects must be reaffirmed to regional leaders,” said the former governor of Jakarta.
He also mentioned the option of providing medical health consultation by utilizing the telemedicine platform, which he believes is effective to reduce person-to-person meetings and maximize the physical distancing measure the government has imposed to break the chain of coronavirus transmission.
