Anies: Jakarta Needs 170 More Ventilators for COVID-19 Patients

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that the capital is in need of as many as 170 ventilators or respirators for COVID-19 patients who need breathing assistance.

“We are now facing a shortage of 170 ventilator units more than what we currently have,” said Anies during a joint meeting with the COVID-19 mitigation team of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta, Thursday, April 16.

Anies added that Jakarta has 947 ventilators, but the number is still lacking to meet the growing needs of patients.

The governor hoped the needs could immediately be fulfilled through the production initiated by State-owned Enterprises (SOEs), among others.

“We must produce more [ventilators], and along with SOEs Ministry, we are pushing for domestic production, including ventilators,” he said.

Three state-run companies ready to produce thousands of ventilators are PT Len Industri (Persero), PT Pindad (Persero), and PT Dirgantara Indonesia/PTDI (Persero).

Anies claimed coordination between Jakarta administration and central government has been running intensively and well so that the various needs for COVID-19 handling could be met immediately.

“We hope we can deal with this and we are working with the central government very intensively,” Anies Baswedan concluded.
