Soekarno-Hatta Police Foil Smuggling of 2,217 Kg of Crystal Meth

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta International Airport police's drug unit foiled an attempt to smuggle 2,217 kilograms of crystal meth carried by two drug mules from Medan, North Sumatera on Tuesday, April 16, 2020.
"The illegal substances were packaged inside numerous face powder packs," said the airport's aviation security chief Grand Commissioner Adi Ferdian Saputra, Thursday, April 16, 2020.
The two female couriers were captured along with a third suspect believed to be the intended recipient. Police initially tracked and conducted surveillance after receiving a tip regarding a drug transaction that was about to take place at Terminal 2 of the airport.
Based on the information, a patrol was initiated at the parking area of Terminal 2. Leter on, the airport police received information that the transaction was moved to a hotel located in the nearby region of Tangerang City.
Following a swift action, the Police successfully arrested the three suspects together with the evidence still in their possession.
"After conducting tests on the powders, they were tested positive to be methamphetamine or crystal meth," said Adi Ferdian Saputra. The suspects now face criminal charges subject to life imprisonment or capital punishment.
