TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) said that six South Korean-based garment companies in West Java had delivered some 927,500 personal protective equipment (PPEs) to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) amid the coronavirus pandemic.
BKPM Spokesperson Tina Talisa said that the six firms were committed to increasing the production of the protective gear in a bid to meet the needs in dealing with the pandemic in Indonesia.
Tina said that her side was also coordinating with related institutions to resolve obstacles related to the delivery of the raw materials.
“The head of BKPM does not only hold a consortium once. [The matter] is continuously monitored so that a solution can be immediately made when a problem shows up. To increase the production, the supply of raw materials must be controlled,” said Tina via a press release on Tuesday, April 14.
Previously, the BKPM Head Bahlil Lahadalia visited South Korean garment factories PT GA Indonesia and PT Daedong Internasional in Bogor. He claimed to have been informed about the firm’s difficulties in increasing production due to the shortage of raw materials. Therefore, BKPM was committed to assisting the transportation of imported raw materials from South Korea and China.
Tina said that when her side made a visit on April 4, 2020, the South Korean garment companies presented 500,000 PPE, and in less than two weeks, they were able to complete an additional production of nearly 500,000 PPEs.
