Jakarta Records Highest COVID-19 Case Fatality Rate in Indonesia

15 April 2020 08:45 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of people who died from the novel coronavirus infection or COVID-19 in Indonesia reached 459, as of Tuesday, April 14. More than half of the figure occurred in Jakarta.

As reported in corona.jakarta.go.id, a total of 243 people in the capital succumbed to the disease, higher than the number of recoveries, which was 163 people. By means, the case fatality rate remained at 10 percent.

As of April 14, the capital recorded 2,349 positive cases with 1,385 of them being treated and 558 others practicing individual isolation.

Besides, the number of people under monitoring (ODP) amounted to 2,446, while patients under monitoring (PDP) stood at 2,997 people.

In early April 2020, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan admitted the case fatality rate (CFR) due to COVID-19 in the metropolitan reached 10 percent, two times higher than the global’s CFR.

“The case fatality rate is 10 percent. That number is double the global average of 4.4 percent. This is very alarming,” said Anies, adding that a variety of containment measures have been taken to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Recently, Jakarta enforced large-scale social restrictions policy or PSBB.
