Government Explains Factors in Indonesia's COVID-19 Transmission

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government's COVID-19 spokesman Achmad Yurianto, on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, revealed two prominent factors behind the spreading of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Indonesia. 

"There are two obvious reasons which we must pay attention to," said Achmad Yurianto in a press conference at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. 

The first factor that propagates the spreading of the virus is the lack of symptoms shown by people who are actually infected, which boosted the chain of transmissions. 

The second factor, Achmad said, is people's ignorance over the government's protocols to fight the spread of COVID-19, such as directives on physical distancing, personal hygiene, and the use of face masks.

Achmad Yurianto said that there have been 282 new cases as of April 14, 2020, which increases the total number of cases to 4,839. The number of mortality caused by the virus has also increase to 459, while 426 people have successfully recovered from the virus.
