TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Wishnutama Kusubandio demanded tourism players to start preparing holiday packages for the year’s end after the Eid al-Fitr collective leave was moved to December.
He hoped tourism operators are optimistic that the coronavirus pandemic will end before the holiday season.
“The change in the collective leave days of 2020 Eid al-Fitr should really be anticipated by the public not to travel or return home during the holiday and postpone it until the year’s end,” said the minister in a written statement, Monday evening, April 13.
However, he stated that business players and the government will focus first on dealing with the virus spread so it will not affect the holiday adjustment later.
The tourism preparations ahead of the end of the year are also in line with the Ministry's efforts to design the post-pandemic recovery program. “I hope the holiday season that is moved to the year’s end will coincide with the end of the pandemic so that it can help the industry to revive,” Wishnutama added.
The adjustment of the 2020 collective leave days stipulated in a joint decree (SKB) of Religious Affairs Minister, Manpower Minister, and Administrative Reform and Bureaucracy Reform, in which the initial collective leave on May 26-29 moved to December 28-31, 2020. The Eid al-Fitr holiday was predicted to fall on May 24-26, 2020.
