TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Traffic Police Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo ensured access from and to the capital will not be restricted during the implementation of the large-scale social restriction or PSBB in Jakarta. Sambodo said this is in accordance with the Health Ministerial Decree No. 9/2020, which is the basis of the strict physical distancing.
“The regulation does not note the traffic restriction, but rather manages the number of passengers in a vehicle (private ones or mass transports),” said Sambodo when contacted on Tuesday, April 7.
However, he stopped short of detailing the number of passengers allowed to be in a vehicle as he was waiting for the provincial administration’s rules on the PSBB application.
“We are still waiting for the written regulation on the details,” Sambodo added.
Earlier, Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto officially granted the Jakarta administration’s request to impose the large-scale social restriction in the capital in an effort to intensify the mitigation of the novel coronavirus that caused COVID-19 outbreak.
The national COVID-19 response task force spokesman Achmad Yurianto confirmed that the decree takes effect starting Tuesday, April 7. Thus, with the approval, the Jakarta administration is obliged to enforce the PSBB under prevailing regulations and consistently encourage and campaign for a healthy and hygiene lifestyle.
The strict physical distancing in Jakarta will be enforced during the longest incubation period of the new coronavirus and can be extended if there is proof of an increase in the number of the virus infection.
