COVID-19 Spokesman Warns about Silent Carriers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national spokesman of COVID-19, Achmad Yurianto, once again reminded people to stay at home as traveling outdoors presents someone to a higher risk of contracting the coronavirus from silent carriers in public spaces.
“We are in the middle of uncertainty in terms of people who are silent carriers and who’s not. Which is why we should commit [to stay at home] diligently,” said Yurianto at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency on Monday.
He reasserts that the dangers posed by silent carriers is due to the fact that the COVID-19 virus could have incubated within the body of a person that does not show any signs of symptoms and present a false sense of security which might encourage them to socialize with people who do not share the same immunity as they do.
The aforementioned cases would certainly further spread the chain of coronavirus transmission, which he says has happened in past cases.
The fear of seeing silent carriers socializing with people is the reason why the Health Ministry imposed the regulation overseeing the large-scale social restriction or PSBB. “This is a follow up to the physical distancing,” said Yurianto.
As of Monday, April 6, Indonesia saw coronavirus cases rise to 2,491 cases with 192 recoveries and 209 deaths. Statistically, Jakarta remains to be the epicenter of the COVID-19 spread with 1,232 confirmed cases.
