TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Agus Wibowo announced on Sunday that the "large-scale social restrictions” protocol, or PSBB, will be enacted in a number of Indonesian regions as of today on Monday, April 6.
“The PSBB status will be enacted as of Monday. Especially in regions that have become the epicenter of the country’s coronavirus outbreak,” said Agus in a Youtube live stream on Sunday.
However, the BNPB spokesman did not mention in detail regarding the regions that will be subjected to the strict physical distancing rule.
Referring to the Health Ministry’s Regulation No.9/2020 on the large-scale social restriction, the Health Ministry must impose the PSBB two days after an official request has been filed by a regional leader.
Commission IX House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker Melki Laka Lena said Fakfak Regent in Papua and Jakarta have sent official requests.
Notably, Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan had already requested on April 2 for the capital city to enact the large-scale social restrictions, as Jakarta remains to be the hardest-hit area in terms of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and deaths.
