TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - TNI Vice Admiral Yudo Margono, Commander of the First Regional Defense Joint Command, said that preparation of the infectious disease hospital on Galang Island, Batam, is almost completed. The hospital will also take in coronavirus patients.

"It is scheduled to start operating on April 6. Right now it is 96 percent ready," he said via teleconference Friday, April 3.

The hospital will focus on treating patients from overseas, particularly immigrant workers, but can also be used for the general public, "especially when other hospitals are at over capacity," he said.

Yudo said the entire facility is divided into three zones. Zone A will have rooms and facilities for medical workers; Zone B will serve as a medical facility, isolation wards, and observatory. Zone C will be used as a backup area for other facilities as well as a research center.

President Joko Widodo had visited the hospital on April 1. The building is a renovation project, using a structure that was once used as a camp for Vietnamese refugees.
