TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Central Java volcano, Mount Merapi, erupted again on Thursday, April 2, at 15:10 local time with an amplitude of 78 mm for 345 seconds, as recorded in the seismogram, creating 3,000-meter-high eruption column from the summit.
With the wind blowing to the East, the eruption created thin ash rains in several areas, such as in Cangkringan Pakem and Turi Districts, Sleman Regency. The rumble caused by the eruption was audible up to seven kilometers from the summit.
“We can’t see the visuals from the South (of the summit). However, the rumble can be heard 7 kilometers from the summit; hard enough for the residents to exit the house," said Bambang Sugeng, a resident of Cangkringan, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region, on Thursday, April 2.
Since May 21, 2018, the Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) has maintained the status of the volcano to be on alert level II (waspada) and warned the residents nearby the area to remain calm.
