South Tangerang Extends Coronavirus Emergency Period until May 29

31 March 2020 10:16 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaSouth Tangerang city administration decided to extend the coronavirus outbreak emergency period until May 29, 2020, as followed the government's decision through the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

Mayor Airin Rachmi Diany said rampant cases of the virus disease or Covid-19 were attributable to the low public awareness in practicing the government's appeals, such as social distancing and physical distancing.

Airin claimed she received reports that many residents still had gatherings at restaurants.

"This case continues to increase because the public is not highly aware [of the virus]. We urge all people to comply with the government’s call for the sake of our health," Airin asserted through a written statement on Tuesday, March 31.

She mentioned that almost 50 percent of South Tangerang City residents work in Jakarta, Depok, and Bogor. Thus such low awareness in maintaining distance will cause a higher risk to get infected.

Due to the extension of the emergency status, Airin issued several policies. Among them was the extension of studying at home period for students until Eid al-Fitr holiday or locally known Lebaran

Residents are also reminded to maintain social distancing, practice remote working or work from home (WFH), and perform prayers at home. Previously, the city’s Manpower Department issued an appeal to companies to implement the WFH program.

As of Monday, March 30, South Tangerang recorded 31 positive cases of Covid-19 and six death tolls. Besides, the city has 280 people under monitoring (ODP) and 123 patients under monitoring as they showed symptoms of the coronavirus.
