Covid-19 Cases Top 1000; Yurianto: Let's Stop the Transmission

27 March 2020 22:32 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Achmad Yurianto, the government spokesman for Covid-19 mitigation, announced on Friday, March 27, 2020, that a the number of confirmed Covid-19  cases had reached 1,046 cases. The significant hike in the case number proved that the source of the transmission was still existing in the community, he added.

"From day-to-day, we see a significant addition of cases with 153 new ones that indicate there are still ongoing virus transmissions within the community. This means there are still positive cases among us all," Yurianto said in a press conference at Graha BNPB, Jakarta, Friday, March 27, 2020.

Yurianto assessed that the increase was mainly caused by many people who did not comply with the government's instruction on physical distancing. "Let's break the chain of the transmission together."

The government, Achmad added, is yet to conduct an evaluation on the instruction, asserting that people should just abide by it. "Just follow the government's recommendations," Yurianto said to Tempo after the press conference.

He called on the public to stay active at homes and maintain a distance of at least one and a half meters from each other. He added that getting closer than the recommended distance could increase the potential for coronavirus transmission.

The government, Yurianto explained, is striving to discover positive cases within the community by tracing possible contacts with patients in the hospital. More accurate detection is expected from the coronavirus rapid tests.

"The government is actively searching for positive cases in the community with rapid tests. We are distributing nearly 500,000 screening kits to all provinces," Yurianto said.
