TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Education and Culture, Nadiem Makarim, reminded teachers and lecturers to not only give assignments to their students during the remote learning period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as teachers and lecturers need to maintain communication and engagement in educating their students.
“We emphasize that it (study at home) does not mean that teachers would only give work to their students, but (they) also need to engage and communicate to help in the student’s work," Nadiem told in a press conference on Tuesday, March 24.
The minister admitted to hearing many complaints from parents and university students who had received difficult assignments, without any guidance and explanation from teachers or lecturers.
“So please, the teachers really need to teach from home and guide their students,” he added.
Continuing on, Nadiem expressed his appreciation towards schools and campuses that have applied the remote learning as a way to curb the coronavirus outbreak.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has previously announced the policies to study at home, work from home, and performing religious worships at home.
The acts of limiting social interaction are taken to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia. The government persists in maintaining that the policies will be implemented in conjunction with the rapid test, without imposing a lockdown.
