TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that 59 percent of victims died from COVID-19 or coronavirus infection in the capital were elderly people aged 60 years and over.
"Based on our data today, 59 percent of those who died are aged over 60 years old," Anies said at City Hall on Monday, March 23, 2020.
According to him, the data revealed that the elderly are the most vulnerable to COVID-19 so he appealed to all Jakartans to provide more protection for their parents.
Anies reminded all to avoid physical contact such as shaking hands, hugging, or kissing parents during this current outbreak.
"If we love our parents, we show it by not hugging, not making physical contact with them until the COVID-19 crisis ends," he underlined.
Based on corona.jakarta.go.id official data, Jakarta has now 356 confirmed cases with 31 fatalities and 22 people have been declared healthy.
As for the national data, the number of coronavirus cases increased to 579 and the death toll was recorded at 49 while those who recovered amounted to 30 people as of today, March 23.
