TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, has asked Customs officers to simplify the entry of imported goods into the country. Likewise, Mahfud MD has also asked the Ministry of Health to create a simplified mechanism related to the entry of Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) and medical devices.
"We have placed Customs officials in various airports as well as land and sea crossings, so as not to complicate [the entry of] foreign goods," Mahfud said in an online press conference broadcasted on Monday, March 23, 2020.
Mahfud MD's demand for the Ministry of Health to create a simplified mechanism is due to complaints on the difficulty for personal protective equipment and medical devices to enter the country, due to the complexity in licensing from the Ministry of Health.
Mahfud continued to point out that there are now services through which licensing can be done through online channels. "Now there are online channels, where (the PPE and medical gear) can be addressed there, to find out on the types of goods permitted to enter; this is allowed; this is not allowed. That's the policy," said Mahfud MD.
In addition, Mahfud admitted that there were plans to import medical devices from South Korea, half of which would be donated to Indonesia to aid in the handling of the COVID-19 outbreak. "The most important thing is how to facilitate, provide and convey it to the public," he added.
