Commuter Line Users Drop 60 Percent amid Coronavirus Emergency

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Railway operator PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) recorded that the number of people riding the KRL commuter line services has dramatically dropped for the past week which corresponds to the government’s instruction on social distancing by working remotely from home (WFH).
”In the past week we saw 50-60 percent drop in KRL users from an average of one million passengers each day to just 500 average daily users,” said PT KCI VP corporate communications Anne Purba on Monday.
KCI has continued with its normal operations despite this drop, which means that KRL commuter line continues to serve 991 trips daily from 04:00 to 24:00 on all 80 commuter line stations.
The spokesperson also called people to avoid unnecessary traveling as the coronavirus emergency period is taking place. Commuter line trains have implemented the social distancing protocol in all Of its facilities that instruct passengers to maintain a safe distance among each other.
To combat the spread of the coronavirus disease, KCI has installed numerous hand sanitizers the public can use and several units of public hand-washing facilities across KRL stations. The company also actively disinfects its trains.
