COVID-19; Medical Officers Set for Incentives up to Rp15 Million

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, has promised that medical officers active in handling the COVID-19 outbreak will be given monthly incentives by the government. The commitment was conveyed during Jokowi’s visit to the Athletes Village (Wisma Atlet), turned into a COVID-19 emergency hospital.
"Yesterday we had a meeting and it was decided, calculated by the Minister of Finance, that a monthly incentive will be given to medical personnel," Jokowi said at the Athlete’s Dormitory, Jakarta, on Monday, March 23, 2020.
For specialist doctors, Jokowi said the government would provide a monthly incentive of IDR 15 million, with general practitioners and nutritionists will be given a monthly incentive of IDR 10 million.
On the other hand, nurses will be given an incentive of IDR 7.5 million, while other medical personnel will be given an incentive of IDR 5 million. “Aside from this, a death benefit of IDR 300 million will also be given," Jokowi continued.
During the occasion, Jokowi went on to express his condolences to medical personnel who passed away in an effort to fight the COVID-19 outbreak.
"They have dedicated themselves, doing their best to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak. On behalf of the government, the nation and the people, I want to thank you for the struggles of those who passed away in handling COVID-19, "Jokowi added.
