TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has postponed the deputy governor election plenary meeting, initially scheduled for March 23, 2020, in order to curb the COVID-19 outbreak.
"I decided to postpone it temporarily because, looking at the situation, it was not possible [to hold the meeting] because of the coronavirus," said Jakarta DPRD Chairman Prasetio Edi Marsudi in his written statement dated Friday, March 20, 2020.
The letter signed by Prasetio pertaining to the postponement pointed out that a new meeting will be scheduled as part of the Regional House of Representative board deliberations meeting agenda.
Continuing on, Prasetio stated that the postponement is one of the internal mitigation efforts done by the Jakarta DPRD to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. "What is certain is that this postponement is our mitigation step in the Jakarta DPRD," he added.
Currently, the Jakarta deputy governor election process has reached the interview stage of two candidates, namely Ahmad Riza Patria from the Gerindra Party and Nurmansjah Lubis from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).
The current two candidates replaced two previous candidates who stalled in the election process, namely PKS cadres Ahmad Syaikhu and Agung Yulianto.
