TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Solo Religious Affairs Department issued a call for mosques not to hold Friday prayers today, March 20. This is a stricter call after yesterday the office only urged mosques to shorten the duration of sermons and prayers.
The Department head, Musta'in Ahmad, said that the policy was eventually revised after judging the situation, seeing the increasing spread of Covid-19.
The department met with several mayors and religious leaders last night. "We decided to ask all places of worship not to hold mass-gathering activities," Musta'in said in Solo, Friday, March 20.
Mosques are asked not to hold Friday prayers starting today until next week. The same appeal is also given to places of worship of other religions.
"Church masses and services on Sunday and Sunday next week will be canceled," he said.
The policy is aimed at preventing further spread of the novel coronavirus. He asked religious leaders participate in disseminating the instruction in an effort to prevent harm.
