TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has asked the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander Hadi Tjahjanto to prepare air transport to collect medical kits in Shanghai, China, which will be used to combat the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Indonesia.
“I plead the TNI Commander to provide air transport to collect the medical kits in Shanghai, China,” the defense minister wrote in a press release on March 18.
This comes as a result of the national meeting on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) mitigation on March 16, together with a joint decision between the defense ministry, presidential staff office, and information from a company called IMIP the following day.
The press release also stated that the kits comprise medical protection equipment such as N95 face masks, protective clothing, goggles, gloves, shoe covers, infrared thermometers, and surgical caps.
The kits will be used by the Defense Ministry and military’s medical teams handling the coronavirus crisis.
Prabowo Subianto’s decision directly responds to President Jokowi’s call to provide assistance for the national COVID-19 task force. Details of when the medical kits will be collected remain unknown.
