TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir has ordered Telkom Group to provide an unhindered internet connection to support people’s activities at home amid the government’s call for coronavirus social distancing.
“The policy to study, work, and conduct prayers at home surely needs to be supported by technology. The role of Telkom and its subsidiaries are crucially needed to support people’s activities at home,” said Erick in a written statement on Wednesday, March 17.
Telkomsel has offered 30 gigabytes of mobile data packages for students who access online learning services that have partnered with the state-owned telecommunication service provider, which comprise Ruangguru and other apps that are within the ‘Ilmupedia package’ such as Quipper, Zenius, Bahaso, and Cakap.
As of now, Erick Thohir is attempting to open a partnership with 122 universities that have e-learning services, Sekolahku app, and other distance learning services.
Telkom has also made IndiHome Study add-ons free of charge that consist of e-books, tryout tests, and videos about tests on every educational level. IndiHome as an internet connection provider also offers upgraded internet quota up to 50 gigabytes for its customers.
Moreover, the State-owned Enterprises Ministry is also preparing an online dashboard, which is backed by big data and machine learning technology, that can be publically accessed to monitor the ministry’s preparedness in facing the coronavirus pandemic.
