LIPI-produced Hand Sanitizers Distributed to Schools in Serpong

13 March 2020 12:43 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) announced that it will produce 300 liters-worth of hand sanitizers for internal use and also distribute them to a number of schools amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

One of the schools to receive the LIPI-made sanitizers is in the vicinity of the Science and Technology Research Center (Puspitek) at Serpong.

The distributed hand sanitizers will be packaged in 250 ml and 100 ml bottles. It contains a number of additional uniquely Indonesian herbs and ingredients that are able to fend-off microbes.

“The LIPI-produced hand sanitizers contain 63-65 percent bioethanol and 0.3 percent nanosilver as an added antiseptic ingredient,” said LIPI deputy of sciences Agus Haryono on Friday, March 13.

Through this distribution, Agus hopes it would help reduce the fear of hand sanitizer scarcity amid the COVID-19 crisis. “No need to panic, we can prevent coronavirus infection through maintaining self-hygiene [such as] by consistently washing hands and using hand sanitizers,” said the LIPI official.
