TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Government is urged to delay Formula E racing event if the spread of the coronavirus is still alarming. The suggestion was conveyed by the Chairperson of the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council from Democratic Faction Desie Christyana in response to the holding of Formula E in Jakarta on June 6, 2020, which was threatened to be cancelled.
"Coronavirus is an international case. If it is dangerous then it is better to postpone it," Desie said when contacted, Monday, March 9, 2020.
The delay can be done if there is a firmness from the central government. If the government has determined the spread of the coronavirus as an extraordinary case and an epidemic case, they could delay the Formula E.
The Democrat faction, Desie said, really appreciated the step of Anies Baswedan and his staff in tackling this virus. Desie sees that the Jakarta Provincial Government is more responsive in dealing with the coronavirus than the central government.
Their responsiveness can be seen from the formation of the COVID-19 response team and the virus control post before President Joko Widodo announced that there were Indonesian citizens who tested positive for coronavirus. "I appreciate Anies who is quick to respond the coronavirus before Mr. Jokowi's announcement," she said.
According to Desie, the Jakarta Provincial Government can still hold Formula E if the central government has not set the alert one status in overcoming COVID-19.
