2 Dutch Embassy Staff Injured in the Sebangau Boat Accident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said there are two Dutch nationals injured following the Sebangau boat accident. The two are staff members of the Dutch Embassy for Indonesia and are currently treated at the Siloam Hospital in Palangka Raya.
“There are two Dutch nationals who are hospitalized,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi after her meeting with Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Stephanus Abraham Blok in Jakarta on Monday night.
The accident that happened at a river in the National Sebangau Park between the L300 longboat operated by Central Kalimantan’s Forestry Agency with the National Army’s (TNI) Den Bekang XII/Tpr speedboat on Monday noon.
With two Dutch nationals onboard one the boats, both vessels collided during a routine check on the location that was about to welcome the Dutch King and Queen visit to Palangka Raya. The accident killed six people out of a total of 27 who were on board the two boats.
Due to this unfortunate incident, Dutch Foreign Affairs Stef Blok offered his deepest condolences for relatives of Dandim 1011/Kapuas Lieutenant Colonel Bambang Kristianto Bawono and five other victims who died at the Sebangau River boat accident.
“We wait for the official statement from the Dutch government. However, he (Minister Stef Blok) already offered his condolences and sympathy,” said Minister Retno Marsudi.
