TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Wishnutama Kusubandio expressed his gratitude over the joint decree of three ministers in light of the additional holidays and collective leave in 2020. He opined the policy would bring a positive impact on the country's tourism and creative economy.
The minister made the statement after witnessing the signing of the joint decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development Office in Jakarta, on March 9.
He said the additional joint leave days resulted from the instruction of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo that was aimed at enhancing the national economy from the movement of domestic tourists. “It will of course generate a positive impact on the tourism sector because people can benefit from the holidays to travel,” the minister added.
According to him, domestic tourists tended to draft travel trips long before D-day as they adjusted them to the school's days off, national holidays, and collective leave.
Therefore, Wishnutama emphasized the industry’s preparations to welcome people’s high interest in planning trips during the said period. “The tourism industry can be more creative in making travel packages as public alternatives,” he underlined.
Wishnutama also advised regional governments to coordinate with tourism operators and other related parties regarding the readiness of the tourist destinations.
“Local governments and related parties must be able to ensure the safety and comfort of tourists, as well as maintain the cleanliness which has become the weakness in the national tourism index so far,” Wishnutama concluded.
