TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Cengkareng Police in West Jakarta inspected the Fajar Baru traditional market and Robinson Ramayana Supermarket to prevent panic buying following Monday’s news about Indonesia’s confirmed first COVID-19 coronavirus case, which was announced by President Jokowi himself.
Cengkareng Police Chief Commissioner Khoiri said the inspection is mainly to assure that prices do not rise illogically and assure that logistics distribution carries on normally.
“Based on the inspection, sellers claim prices have remained normal. Distribution is also running smoothly and there are no large-scale purchases,” said Khoiri in a written statement on Tuesday, March 3.
The police field inspection took place in stores that sell basic staples. The authorities confirmed that the supply of basic staples is indeed adequate and that distributions to shopping areas have not been hampered by the COVID-19 coronavirus.
