TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One coronavirus suspect who was admitted to Semarang City’s Dr. Kariadi General Hospital (RSUP) on February 19 has reportedly died in the intensive care isolation unit on Sunday, February 23. The patient had tested negative for COVID-19 one day after his passing.
The 37-year old male patient was initially treated for an acute respiratory disorder and had previously traveled overseas to Spain and the United Arab Emirates.
“We treated the patient with high caution as a patient with an emerging disease,” said the hospital’s head of medical service, Nurdopo Baskoro, on Tuesday, February 25.
According to Nurdopo, hospital administrators were notified about the lab test on his blood report from the Health Ministry’s research and development board on Monday, February 24, just one day after the man’s death.
The patient was then buried inside a closed casket according to hospital protocols on emerging diseases, “As there was no certainty on the cause of [his illness] prior to his death and high caution was necessary,” said Nurdopo.
“Relatives of the patient decided where he was buried. I, myself, educated the relatives on the procedure to treat emerging patients where the casket must not be opened and must be buried under four hours. Coincidentally, his family had a background in medicine and understood the situation easier,” said Nurdopo on the coronavirus suspect case in Central Java.
