TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction head Muhammad Arifin opined that Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan was overwhelmed in tackling floods because he was leading the capital alone.
“The governor seems to be overwhelmed [in mitigating floods], that’s why having a deputy is urgent,” said Arifin at the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Building, Monday, February 24.
Arifin said that the election of a deputy governor must be held immediately to support the work of the former education and culture minister.
Additionally, Arifin observed that the regional work unit (SKPD) did not carry out Anies’ orders on flood mitigation, especially the Water Resources Agency. “The governor’s instruction to create a collaboration is ignored,” he added.
With the presence of a deputy governor, he went on, Anies could share the tasks on flood mitigation in the city. He hoped the new deputy could be elected soon. “To support the performance of Pak Governor.”
The parties supporting Anies Baswedan in the 2017 gubernatorial election, Gerindra and PKS, proposed two candidates for the vacant deputy governor position after Sandiaga Uno's resignation in August 2018 to run in the presidential election. The two candidates were Nurmansjah Lubis from PKS and Ahmad Riza Patria from the Gerindra Party.
