Three Jokowi's Ministers Reject Anies' Formula E Monas Proposal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three of the five ministers of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who joined the Medan Merdeka Regional Development Steering Commission rejected the proposal of Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to hold a Formula E race at National Monument (Monas).
As quoted from Tempo Magazine entitled Lingkaran Kalla di Balapan Formula E, February 22, 2020 edition. The five ministers which entered this team are: Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Wishnutama Kusubandio, Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
In a meeting on February 5, 2020, three of the five ministers directly raised their objection to Anies. One of them is Pratikno who said that the status of Medan Merdeka Park is a cultural heritage area and Minister Siti argued that Formula E is too close to the Merdeka Palace.
Minister of Tourism also rejected the idea of Formula E at the National Monument (Monas). He said that electric car racing has not been proven to bring many tourists like other races that have existed: Formula 1 and MotoGP. Read more in the February 22 edition of Tempo Magazine.
