TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several areas in Jakarta were flooded on Sunday morning following heavy rains overnight.

One of the flooded areas was Kayu Putih Raya Street in East Jakarta, with the water level reaching a depth of 20 cm to 30 cm, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police said through its Twitter account @TMCPoldaMetro on Sunday

The other flooded areas in East Jakarta were Ujung Menteng and Cakung.

Still in East Jakarta, 30-50 cm deep floodwater submerged Mayjend Sutoyo Street in front of the Jakarta Regional Military Command Headquarters. The police advised vehicles such as sedan to avoid the flooded street.

In Central Jakarta, 20-40 cm deep flood water inundated several streets including JL Anyar Menteng.Jl. Surabaya, Jl. Cilacap, and Jl. Pegangsaan Barat.

In South Jakarta, flood began to inundate several homes in Tebet at 3 a.m. local time

At least 43 people were killed when floods inundated several areas in Jakarta, Bekasi, Depok, Bogor City, Bogor District, Tangerang City, South Tangerang District, and Lebak District early this year, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB),

Nine of the dead were Jakarta's residents: Some of them died of drowning and electric shock.

Last Thursday (Feb (20), floods also swamped some 100 homes in Cawang, East Jakarta after Ciliwing River overflowed its bank

The flooding is the third to hit Cawang during this rainy season, local resident, Iwan remarked.

"This is the third of its kind since January 1, 2020," he added.
