TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan explained that his meeting with Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto at the former's office today was to discuss Prabowo’s plan to visit Abu Dhabi regarding investments.

Luhut will be tasked to bridge the bilateral communication between the defense minister and Abu Dhabi. “I’m the one who opens the communication with Abu Dhabi. The follow-up will depend on each state minister,” said Luhut at his office today.

Earlier reports said Abu Dhabi had expressed commitment to investing in Indonesia with a total value of up to USD 22.8 billion (Rp319.8 trillion) and the defense industry was one of its aimed field of investment.

Luhut explained that Abu Dhabi was interested in creating a joint venture with Indonesia to make military drones while other developments, such as in the field of aerospace, were currently in talks.

“We do already have drones but we want to have even more sophisticated ones. Abu Dhabi wants to join in the technological development,” said Luhut Pandjaitan.

Prabowo Subianto is slated to visit Abu Dhabi on February 23 and sought to hold the meeting as he arrives on February 24.
