Gojek, BNPB Join Hands in Disaster Mitigation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and Gojek signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on disaster management in Indonesia today, Feb. 19, at the app provider office.
The cooperation is a concrete effort by BNPB in Penta Helix; the involvement of a business entity in disaster mitigation.
"BNPB will provide disaster response training for Gojek partners and employees," Gojek Chief of Public Policy and Government Relations Shinto Nugroho said in a press release received by Tempo today, Feb. 19.
She said that the cooperation would include the information on disasters in the Gojek app, training for Gojek employees and partners, and other forms of cooperation beyond the personnel and logistics aids.
Shinto also explained the long term scope of cooperation between her company and BNPB which include developing innovations for education and information dissemination on disaster through the company's app.
BNPB Principal Secretary Harmensyah said he appreciated the commitment of Gojek, an on-demand technology company, for being the first to take the initiative to become a government partner in disaster mitigation.
"It should be underlined that disaster mitigation efforts are a joint affair," Harmensyah said.
BNPB considers Gojek can help them build public awareness in overcoming disasters. Harmensyah said the operation of the app provider company covers 203 cities and the application had been downloaded for more than 170 million times.
