TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bekasi City Government is preparing steps to anticipate cases of theft in schools. With three cases in three days, thieves stole laptops and projector stationed at schools.
"Conducting a night watch picket is one of the solutions, but the solution going forward is how we conduct close supervision," Bekasi Deputy Mayor Tri Adhianto said on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.
Based on information summarized by Tempo, the three cases of theft first occurred in Teluk Pucung 1 Public Elementary School (SDN), Teluk Pucung Sub-District, North Bekasi District on Friday morning last week. The thief raided six laptops and two projectors. Losses due to the incident were estimated at Rp 20 million.
Two days later or on Sunday morning, Bintara 7 Public Elementary School in West Bekasi Sub-district was also raided by a thief. The perpetrator stole a laptop and a computer device. Losses reached tens of millions of rupiah.
On the same day, Kayuringin Jaya 3 Public Elementary School, in South Bekasi District was also raided by thieves. The perpetrators stole two laptops and projectors worth Rp 12 million.
According to Tri, anticipating theft can be done by installing surveillance cameras in schools that are prone to theft. CCTV cameras, he said, can be monitored via mobile phones from home. "It's more efficient to use CCTV," Tri said.
However, to buy CCTV requires a procurement budget from the Regional Budget (APBD). "Existing funds can only be determined later by the Mayoral Regulation, and later the School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds will be allocated for that (CCTV procurement)," Tri said.
