TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The appearance of a wild Sumatran Tiger (Panthera Tigris Sumatrae) on the Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road project in Riau Province, shocked several workers on Sunday morning, February 16, 2020.
Corporate secretary of PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI), Alfa Haga Rachmady, said the wild animal showed up in the Minas area project, Siak Regency.
"The tiger came out yesterday (Sunday), around 08:30. It just passed while we're working, so one of our workers take a picture of that moment," he said.
According to the photo circulated on social media, the tiger looks to be an adult and alone. The tiger climbed the cliff above the workers at the toll road construction site.
Alfa said the appearance of the tiger does not interfere with the continuity of the Trans Sumatra toll road project. "Alhamdulillah, it does not disturb us," he said.
The Head of the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA), Suharyono, confirms the report on the appearance of the Sumatran tiger in the Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road project.
Several areas of the Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road along 131 kilometers are indeed the forest area. Some areas have even been identified as the crossings for wildlife, such as the Sumatran elephant.
