Animal Defenders Indonesia Report Angkot Driver for Killing a Cat

17 February 2020 10:25 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Activists from Animal Defenders Indonesia reported an angkot driver for allegedly abusing a cat to its death. The incident is said to have happened in Bekasi, West Java, at Bojong Megah Street.

"We have prepared a team of lawyers to report the cat abuse in Bojong Rawalumbu. Today we will file the cat murder report to the Bekasi City Police," Animal Defenders Indonesia chairman Doni Herdaru Tona said on Monday, 17 Februari, ANTARA reported.

The incident became public knowledge after a security camera footage went viral online, showing a man hitting a cat mercilessly on February 5, 2020. The video was posted to Twitter by used @lalaqiyy.

The video showed a man walking up to see a kitten sleeping on the terrace of a home, and he suddenly hit its head with a broom stick. He then left the kitten to die.

Doni Herdaru said his act is unforgivable and he must be punished for it.

"We were informed that the suspect ran off after killing the innocent cat. We are reporting this case as a lesson to prevent anyone from hurting and killing animals as they wish," he said.

Budiharto, member of the Cikananga Wildlife Center in Sukabumi, said that every animal has the right to live. He hopes that the cat killer in Bekasi is captured and gets the punishment he deserves.
