TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Social Ministry has earmarked a total of Rp38.38 trillion budget for the Family Hope Program or PKH and the disaster mitigation in 2020, said the Director-General of Social Protection and Assurance Harry Hikmat.

Harry explained that the social aid program was known to ease people’s financial burden and improve public access to health and education services. This year, it was expected to boost people’s income.

“About 98.62 percent or Rp30.94 trillion of the total budget is allocated for PKH, Rp272.93 billion for natural disaster mitigation, and the rest Rp105.2 billion for social disaster mitigation,” said Harry in a written statement on Thursday, February 13.

According to Harry, the amount of government-funded social assistance would be disbursed based on the expenses of each family (KPM). The program’s beneficiaries are pre-prosperous households in the frontier, outermost, and least developed regions.

Additionally, the Social Ministry increased the aid for pregnant women and children from Rp2.4 million to Rp3 million in a bid to combat stunting.
