Jokowi Offers Help to China in Dealing with Coronavirus

    TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping over the phone on Tuesday night, February 11, expressing sympathy over the coronavirus outbreak. He also offered assistance to handle the crisis.

    “I have talked with President Xi Jinping last night by phone and offered sympathy and help if necessary to quicken the virus mitigation. I told him that Indonesia is ready to give a hand,” said the Indonesian President at State Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 12.

    He stated that Indonesia will back China in facing these difficult times. “I believe China can cope with this virus problem in no time,” Jokowi said.

    As of February 12, there are 44,730 confirmed cases of the deadly virus in China and 397 cases overseas. Meanwhile, the death toll reached 1,114 people, including in Hong Kong, and one dead victim in the Philippines, as reported by Chinese news outlet CGTN.

    During a press conference in Beijing today, February 12, the Chinese National Health Commission (NHC) announced that the number of daily new confirmed novel coronavirus cases in China dropped by 48.2 percent between February 4 and 11.
