TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malala Fund, an international non-profit organization founded by Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Prize winner, gave support to the metal band from Garut, West Java, named Voice of Baceprot (VoB). VoB consists of three teenage girls, Firda Kurnia (vocals and guitar), Euis Siti Aisyah (drums), and Widi Rahmawati (bass).
Malala Fund is an international non-profit organization that focuses on girls' education. Malala Yousafzai starts to catch the world attention when she, who was still eleven years old, wrote about the cruelty of the Taliban government, one of which banned school girls.
"Firdda, Eusi and Widi — the members of @voiceofbaceprot, an all-girl heavy metal band from Indonesia — believe that music is the best way to address the issues they witness in their country and around the world. They fell in love with heavy metal after their teacher (and now band manager) played them the song “Toxicity” by @systemofadown," wrote the Instagram account @malalafund on Tuesday, February 11, 2020.
Malala Fund has listened and liked the songs played by VoB. "Upon hearing it, we seemed to find something that was very compatible with our noisy and critical personalities," she wrote. It is known that VoB was formed since 2014 when they were 14 years old.
