TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The new coronavirus that has caused pneumonia in Wuhan, China, has become a global concern following its ceaseless and rapid spread.
According to WHO data per February 4, 2020, the total confirmed figure of novel coronavirus (nCov) cases had reached around 20,000, with death toll touching 638 to February 7.
Dr. Erlina Burhan, a pulmonologist at Persahabatan Hospital, said people who were surrounded by the virus, however, could stay healthy thanks to their body immunity. She explained those in their prime health and protected by robust body immunity could remain uninfected by the virus.
“There is no problem. We will stay healthy [if our body immunity is good], but we have to be aware that we could turn into a virus carrier,” she told a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, February 6, 2019.
She went on to explain the coronavirus could hide in someone’s body and jump to another with low immunity level. “It can move through droplets and close contact [within less than two meters] with a potential victim,” she said.
Thus, Erlina called on the public to pay close attention to their body immunity. “We can improve our immunity system by consuming nutritious food, getting enough rest and excercise, and refrain from being stressed out,” she said.
