TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan has reportedly accepted the official instruction from the Secretary of State which orders city administrations to not use the Monas (National Monument) area as a makeshift racecourse for the upcoming Formula E race.
The meeting by the Medan Merdeka Development Steering Team decided to bar the electric car race event to be held within the Monas area that is considered as a cultural heritage.
“We will respect that decision,” said Anies Baswedan at the Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, Feb. 6.
According to the governor, who is also the secretary of the steering committee, the brief meeting produced a number of opinions but mainly decided to alter the track design that would no longer include the Monas area.
“Once we were advised not to include Monas, we decided to search for a new [Formula E track layout],” said Anies Baswedan.
