TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Finance Minister JB Sumarlin died at Carolus Hospital, Jakarta, Thursday afternoon, February 6, 2020, at 14:15.

"Yes, we feel grieved and lost a role model. He played a major role in improving the economy in Indonesia in the late 1980s," said Acting Chief of the Ministry's Communication and Information Services Bureau, Nufransa Wira Sakti, in a short message to Tempo.

During his term in office, he was very famous for 'Sumarlin Breakthrough' in the form of a Deregulation Policy Package in the Field of Monetary, Finance, and Banking. This policy was reported to have managed to control inflation during Sumarlin's term in office.

"Therefore, he was named the best Minister of Finance in 1989 by Euromoney and in 1990 by Asian magazines," said Nufransa.

Based on information received by Tempo, the funeral ceremony for Sumarlin will be done in Siloam Semanggi's MRCC funeral home on the 36th floor at 18:00. The former Chairman of the Supreme Audit Board will be buried in San Diego Hills Cemetery on Monday, February 10, 2020.

JB Sumarlin served as the Indonesian Finance Minister of the Development Cabinet V from 1988 to 1993. He died at the age of 87 years.
