  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Panjaitan is optimistic that the Employment Creation Law is set to increase investor interest in Indonesia.

“If you [investors] have a problem, come to me or my staff. We will accommodate, you [investors] don't have to pay for anything," Luhut said at the Mandiri Investment Forum 2020 in Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.

Luhut went on to say that he had just received an investment commitment from the United States through the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC),which will increase foreign investment in Indonesia.

Continuing on, Luhut has also received investment commitments from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Indonesia's investment commitment agreement with the UAE is valued at US$ 6.8 billion and includes a number of strategic projects.

"The majority of the (investment) will be streamed towards the Eastern regions, we (want to) improve the quality of education in the East, we will build a polytechnic," he said.

Luhut remarked that the Omnibus Law will prevent project licensing bribery cases such as those that occur in Meikarta will not happen again. Bribery case that occurred in the Meikarta project, according to him, has been related to illegal levies carried out by local regional officials.
